I’m Eoghan (pronounced Oh-en), an Irish Berlin-based Product designer. I craft accessible, user-focused solutions that create impact
Who i am
I’m a product designer originally from Dublin, Ireland but now based in Berlin, Germany. While I’ve worked across many aspects of design, I love to work on products from end-to-end, identifying problem spaces, carrying out user research, validating ideas, and monitoring a product's performance. I first came to understand what product design was through graphic design - and more specifically prob design thanks to a bonus CD from Harry potter and the order of the phoenix. Since then many teachers nurtured my love of creativity ultimately resulting in my studying of visual communication design at the Dublin Institute of technology. From there I have predominantly worked in the B2B space, first at an eCommerce consultancy and then at a BNPL Fintech company.
What I've been working on
As mentioned, I started my career at an eCommerce consultancy in Dublin. There I got the chance to work on a range of design projects. Be it rebranding, redesigning whole enterprise eCommerce platforms, or carrying out marketing campaigns. The highlights of my time there were the work I did on a template eCommerce solution - which we marketed under the name of Apex; as well as work for large B2B names such as sysco, Topline, and Uniphar. From there I entered the Fintech space working for Billie GmbH. Here I have owned the checkout experience, designing, improving, and maintaining the checkout integration with Klarna - which has subsequently been integrated with Mollie and Adyen. As well as developing several additional products and offerings such as a demo store, HPP integration, and an instalment offering.
My design philosophies
When it comes to design I always aim to create accessible and user-focused solutions. In order to achieve this I try to understand who our users are, what the problem is that they are experiencing, and how we can best create a solution to do so. While often as product designers we must take business needs into consideration, I believe that we can do so while keeping the user at the heart of our work and outcomes. In terms of accessibility, I believe that the basis of a good product is one that is accessible. At Billie I have become the go-to accessibility expert, and have involved myself in rebranding and design system initiatives to ensure that our products remain accessible.
My passions
Outside of design I have multiple passions that range from athletics to literature. As a teenager I became involved in athletics where I focused on the 400m discipline competing across Ireland in various competitions. This passion eventually led me to become a qualified athletics coach, and go on to coach at the club I competed for. Doing so enabled me to spread my knowledge, and encourage the next generation of runners - something that provided a lot of satisfaction for me, even throughout the Covid lockdowns. In terms of literature I am an avid reader, and have in the last year become enthralled in the murder mystery genre. Currently, I am aiming to read every Hercule Poirot book by Agatha Christie. Some of my all time favourite books include “The picture of dorian gray” by Oscar wilde, and “Swimming in the dark” by Tomasz Jedrowski.
